Deeper

 

one step

 

one step away

 

one step closer 

 

into the forest I go

 

unafraid

 

following no path

 

listen to my footsteps

 

this is the spirit

 

these are the lessons

 

survive

 

water , fire , shelter , food

 

aware

 

my senses alive

 

to the bear  , the cougar , the snake

 

the Eagle my Totem

 

I take wing

 

to the sky , the wind , the earth  

 

I seek no harm nor intend to inflict

 

I enter the forest in peace

 

and the peace of the forest enters me

 

at night my eyes follow the Moon

 

and I fall asleep under countless stars 

 

in the morning I am graced with dew

 

beginning a new day

 

and quietly

 

continue my journey

 

deeper into nature

 

deeper into the nature of me 

 

 

 

Author's Note

I have spent much time in the solitude of the forest , alone . Time filled with precious moments and memories.

I'm quite jealous of you, you know...? This poem, it is what I wish to just throw everything away for, this vision you've created here. I've been finding myself near tears lately, fearing what is to happen to my world...and ashamed because I have yet to lift a hand to protect her...but this poem...it gives me a sort of...hope... We'll likely kill her in time, but perhaps before she dies, I'll fall into the deeper nature of me. Nicely done, sir.

I like it very much. Strong imagery : 'into the forest I go'. one can feel that this is written on the basis of experience in nature. Reminds me of the book Wild by Cheryl Strayed I read recently.

The ending is perfect : 'and quietly continue my journey deeper into nature deeper into the nature of me'. Indeed one can discover himself when alone.

I like how clear and centered your language is. I think the breaking up of the poem by double spacing it almost seems like each line is a stanza, and makes each stand out by itself, which matches the clarity of each line. It makes them each stand alone. It makes each statement a lone warrior, proud and independent. I also appreciate that you can make us feel the singularity of your focus, while BEING nature itself...being your own nature. I am a nudist and a naturist and love the woods. I am aware I can't share that with everyone, but when I can I love to just be out in nature with no separations between me and all the rest of the world. I feel like you have done an excellent job here at describing that connection to the purity in nature we all have the capacity for (I hope).
