Ditto

Ditto

A Poem by Brittany Zedalis
"

R.I.P. Mom. 1964-2013.

"

We watch a movie,

about ghosts and love,

about truth and justice,

and hear a word.

One word, sticking

with us for the rest

of your life, spoken

in moments of love.

I'm on my knees, in

front of the old and

the new, wind wrapping

its arms around me.

I plead.

But I hear nothing.

There was once a time,

when there was a reply.

I said I love you

and you simply said..

...Ditto.

Author's Note

Brittany Zedalis

For those of you who haven't seen the movie Ghost, a man is killed and the movie is about him trying to prevent his girlfriend from getting hurt by the person who killed him. My mom and I used to watch this movie a lot, and when we first watched it when I was little, the word Ditto stuck with us for the rest of her life. Instead of saying I love you in this movie, the character simply says Ditto.

I remember this movie well. My wife and I watched at least a dozen times, and she cried every time. It bothered her so much she asked me to never say "ditto." Perhaps she had similar fears? Now, you're living with that memory. I know they say "time heals," but I've always questioned that. I think the scars just become a bit tougher, but they always remain. A touching poem written from the heart.

It's a great movie. Thank you for reading!
Hey, that is really sad but in a good kind of sad way ,if you know what I mean, sentiments so well expressed, gives a new meaning to a simple word, Ditto.

Oh my this gave me chills, I just said that to someone, and we spoke of the scene is that movie...the sentiment here is overwhelmingly sad and poignant. Your mom would so love this one Brittany....sigh.

It's a classic. It's sad, it will make you cry, but it's worth it to watch.
One of my favorite movies...I used to watch it with my daughter...

Your poem is lovely Brittany.

Thank you. It was a difficult one to write, but only because of the emotions I poured into it.
