Silent Thoughts

A poem about recovery.

Trying to figure out how to explain recovery.

But it's not a simple thing.

Trying to explain recovery is like explaining what it is like to have wings.

I want someone to know, to understand.

But no matter how I state it, it comes out too bland.

I'm trying to think of a way to describe what it's really like to recover,relapse, and fly.

I do not know how to tell you,

I really wish I did.

I could tell you the scientific way,

But that's not how my soul experienced it.

I really want to tell you,

But I don't think I humanly can.

But when I try to explain it,

Please try to understand.

Not bad. Don't forget you don't have to cap every line. You have a good concept and you expand on it well, but I think form-wise it might be better to stick to couplets all the way through, instead of having a tercet and then a line, as it makes the piece appear more unified. I think the tone might come across as a little too self-pitying on the part of the speaker, but either way this is a good start.
