DAD

DAD

A Poem by Soul Fire

Welcome to the world of 11 year old me.
This is my story, if you wanna see.
Dad left in June you see..
After Their anniversary.

15 years of wedded bliss.
Killed and died without a goodbye kiss.
He left her with words, hurt her with actions.
Then as children came home.

It was a great distraction.
As the words echoed in mommy’s’ ears
``I love you but I’m not in love with you.’’
What does that mean? After all these years?

The children saw mommy in tears,
Asked her why. She didn’t say a word.
Ray walked to her, and wiped her tears away.
``mommy you okay?’’
No answer came my way.

Liam was little, he didn’t understand.
He just wondered and held mommys hand.

Dad came home early.
As mom cried away, in the kitchen, she cried her life away.
She tried to make supper, it was hard to see her cry. She didn’t say much, a
As we left and said goodbye, she had another tear in her eye.
I kissed her cheek, told her how much I love her.

It hurt to leave her.

We got in the car

Dad took us out for ice cream,

At our favourite place,
Sweet dreams,
Mmm ice cream
He told us the news,
As we cried, and sniffled, and snuffled.
As he just sat there and stared.

We went by the water,
My favourite place.
He told us it was temporary.
Living at J&R’s place.
He’d be down the street and close by,
It’s a break, he said.

We got home,
Mum at the sink,
On the phone,

Tears in her eyes,
No answer to my question,
She had hesitation.

Dad went to their room,
Mom held us,as he
Picked up his bags,
And headed for the door.

I stopped him a few times,
``Daddy.’’
I said.
He looked away with hesitation, and dread.
With tears running down my face,

Dad, kept walking away,
Blocking us ,like a karate move,
He swerved away.

Headed for the door,
A million thoughts raced,
As we came closer to the end,
I couldn’t pretend,

It killed me to watch,
But I had to get him to stop.
I didn’t know when I was going to see him again.

I wanted to hug him,
But this moment couldn’t be touched.

He went for the door,
I know because I watched.

He looked at me, with tears in his eyes,
when he looked away, with out a goodbye...
he shut the door, as I yelled`` Dad!’’
I didn’t understand...I was so sad.

touching and poignant write...an all too familiar story in our modernistic society. it is always the children who suffer the most, but i pity the mothers as well, using up their livelihoods to provide a man with offspring , only to be discarded, along with those kids, like yesterday's newspaper. sad. i hope this write brought you the desired release.

Really well written, moving piece. Enjoyed reading it very much. An excellent entry to the 'pain' competition.

Your welcome :)
Strong write it’s hard to tell a story in a poem that well. Divorce can be an ugly thing for a kid don’t forget people don’t get divorced because there happy. I’m sorry you went through that
