Her name was Cora PrologueA Chapter by Raya
Prologue
My
mind is not my own!
Cora
scribbled frantically on the paper she had been stealing from the prison guards
and doctors and nurses. She didn’t even know the point of this.
They are probably coming for me now-
the moment they pick up on this thought. My only hope is that somehow someone
will find this. Someone who is not under their influence. Someone who will know
the truth and tell everyone. Get rid of them.
They’ve
wired our brains to measure chemical imbalances. To manipulate our behaviors
and emotions. They mix drugs in our food to keep us content. More than that
though, they monitor our feelings and thoughts. They stick us in this lab, this
prison
if you are resistant to the drugs. Resistant to their control. Resistant to
them.
Then she heard the footsteps, the doors slamming, the screaming and yelling.
She thrust the papers in the small hole in the wall behind her bed just as her
room door bursts open. White orderlies flowed into the room, shoved her down,
and sedated her. Cora doesn’t bother struggling against it. She knew it was too
late, so she succumbed to the darkness, wondering what would happen to her.
