All I See

All I See

A Poem by Matthew Soliguen

All I see around me are people succeeding,
people achieving,
people striving, people moving.
People  working and people living,
people rich, with too much in hand,
people who stood on whose shoulder's I can't.
People who walked out of the shadows of men,
People who lived knowing what their dreams meant,
People who never knew the meaning of struggle,
People who never complained, never grumbled,
My envy eats me from inside,
Seeing people who looked down on their children in pride,
And I tell myself it's unfair, they were born in prestige,
It's unfair to be so far out of their league.
What I fail to see are people crying,
people hurting and people dying,
people hungry, people thirsting,
people hating, people crushing.
People who were born and knew only pain,
people who slept on the ground in the rain,
people who never knew what luxury meant,
people who lived in doubt and resent,
people that live their live simply craving,
never envious, only wanting,
people who knew the value of the worthless,
people who could smile looking at the world's mess,
And in my life's every stage, and my life's every season,
I only looked at the outcome, and never the reason,
I betrayed myself, put up too much expectations,
Wrongly, I wanted to taste all of the world's temptations,
And with a roof in my head, I lay in my bed,
kept thinking of people who lived like the dead.
They knew that life is more than just gaining the world,
to survive is to flourish, content is the word.
Content, such a strong word, so tell me the meaning,
All  I see is a world, a world full of envy.
