A Soldier In DarknessA Poem by Matthew SoliguenWhat Lies Lie In The Heart Of Man
The cold takes place as our hearts grow bold,
Bravery takes root in the minds of the weak. Ever so silent they shake in their heels, A boast to the crowd about a darkness that comes. Yet what he hides in his heart is darker than black, He is but a shadow of himself, nothing more than a husk. He tries to act reformed, but his mind's in dismay. The screams of the damned seems to echo in his heart. What silence takes place as gunshots unfold? What screams does he hear as he lies in his bed? Does he feel anything at all? Does he feel bad about the children he orphaned? He tells his family he would be alright. Lies, nothing more, nothing less. he fears his gun more than his enemy. He is his own nightmare. The gun that has killed feels like a cross in his arms. Soon it is to damn him. He feels it. Feels the pain. Fathers dead at their children's feet as he watches the blood gush on his arms. No mercy. What does he see in the mirror? Does he see a man? Or worse yet, a monster? He takes the gun, and points it at a head. But this time, it is his own.
