Tic Tac Toe

Tic Tac Toe

A Poem by RayLynn

We all know how it goes:

“Tic Tac Toe, give me three in a row”,

Except I never wanted any at all.

I played the game expecting to win,

But now it’s a stalemate and we’re both losing parties.

I fell in love with my opponent and was blindsided when he revealed the tricks up his sleeve.

As my heart beat faster, so did his, but it wasn’t for the feelings of love, it was for the thrill of winning a game I never intended to play.

I’d had two before him who stay ingrained in my mind, the two I thought were right.

But then I met him and they didn’t matter as much.

Then the tides turned and he walked out of my life just as quick as he’d walked into it.

That’s a third one down and by the rules, I should have won the game, but I’ve lost the most of all.

I played Tic Tac Toe, got my three in a row,

But instead of a prize, now I lie alone at night.
