Rings

Rings

A Poem by RayLynn

Our entire life revolves around a ring.

As a little girl, I had a hula hoop, crazy untameable ringlets, and played ring around the rosy.

As a teenager, popularity depended on rings. Our phones were constantly attached to our hands and we were always talking to someone.

As a young woman, I found the one and so progresses a series of rings. First a promise, then an engagement, and finally a wedding.

And the cycle begins all over again as I have children and their lives begin as well.

It’s almost as if it were like a tree. As each age passes, a new ring is added.

If someone were to count them all, they’d decipher all I’ve lived through.

My entire life summed up by merely a series of rings.
