Flags

Flags

A Poem by RayLynn

Signs are everywhere, they’re all around us, it’s just that some of us choose to ignore them.

One flag goes up as he raises his voice at you.

Another as your stomach turns to quicksand and threatens to swallow your heart and lungs all in a matter of seconds.

Another goes up as tears stream down your face.

He thinks it’s over, he smirks because he won the battle you never even really fought.

He imagines and assumes your white flag is up and you’ve given in,

But you smile because you know it’s only just begun, and while his back is turned, you raise your war flag.
