![]() FocusA Poem by RayLynnI’m swimming in my thoughts, lost in my own mind I try to focus Focus Rachael, Focus I try My mind wanders again There you lay in a gown of blue in a sterile room all
alone, machines buzz and beep all around you and people rush in and out Inhale Exhale Good It’s getting stronger Rachael, Focus I look back to the task at hand but I can’t quite get my
mind back on track My other family needs me to be focused; I can’t You’re in the hospital I can’t wrap my mind around it How did this happen? What went wrong? Focus My mind comes back to the real reason I’m here: support,
I’m here to support them In a theoretical world I could walk a mile to save a life,
but in real life it doesn’t work like that In real life a person can be fine one night and then be rushed
to the emergency room the next morning, in real life a person can cough and
their lung can collapse and there’s nothing they can do but hope the doctors
can help They can do nothing but focus on breathing Inhale Exhale Good Except it’s not good When a person relies on only half of one of their essential
organs, it’s not good I suppose I can’t complain because I’m not the one who
can’t breathe and I’m not at the hospital And I also can’t complain because I’m not the parent whose
youngest child is in the hospital; I’m not the parent who has to celebrate a
birthday without their son Focus Inhale Exhale Good I push open the door and walk in to see you Focus © 2016 RayLynnReviews
