Mother's Tale

Mother's Tale

A Poem by Catrin Gold

The wind is whispering
provocative tales of                        (love?  lust?)
timeless romance
to the skittering leaves --
life's only skeptic,
if you please.
The solemn giants
held the secrets of ages,
true power over
their own parasites.
And overhead,
the Lord and Lady
fight a tireless game                       (tag, you're it)
while their heirs
die out one by one,
each in a blaze of glory,
unseen in the epic battle
for a treasure that soils itself.
And as the Lady triumphs                (for now)
the blanket falls,
(all tucked in?)
and romance gives sway
to roaming endless gray.

I'm trying to read this as a mother telling a story to a child, but I keep finding out I'm probably wrong.

Try thinking of it as "a tale of Mother Nature" and see if it works better for you.
