Goodbye

Goodbye

A Poem by Catrin Gold

It's like a mask that hides the view,
but I can see through you,
to every crack
and bend
and break . . .
the beauty that they take.
And your masochistic dreams
turn to dark nightmarish screams,
but the more you push
the more I pull away.

And we'll try and try again,
for the hurt that lies within
can only build upon itself until we break.
For now we'll say goodnight,
if it only stops the fight,
but tomorrow looms ahead
and I'm not sure
I can stand another lonely sunrise.

Lullaby, say goodnight,
wish to never see first light.
For as long as I can say
Tomorrow's another day,
Maybe hope will kill the afterburn.
But never tell the truth,
cause lies are sugarcoats
to take away the taste
of a cancer-ridden throat.

Can you hear the time
passing by outside?
It left a message -
Goodbye.

I'd love to read people's interpretations of the meanings behind this piece, since I had none in mind when I wrote it.
