PrologueA Chapter by ValerieA wolf angel goes to a place of darkness to make a deal with a dark creature.
Dominic walked silently down the dark corridor. The floor was cold on his footpads and the sound of a high wind was all around him. He couldn’t smell or hear anything, and he could barely see. Having ones senses taken away generally causes panic, but not for Dominic. He was afraid of nothing, not the darkness, not the roar of the wind, and he certainly wasn’t afraid of the being he sought.
He came to the end of the corridor. In front of him were two large, ornate doors. They had scenes of death and slaughter carved into them, but he paid them no mind. He couldn’t afford to lose his composure now. “Enter,” said a feminine voice behind the doors. The doors opened slowly, and Dominic entered. The room was large and dark; very fitting for the dark creature that inhabited it. “Ah, Dominic, welcome to my humble abode; I thought you wouldn’t come. Normally angels would avoid this place of darkness.” The being that spoke was sitting atop an ebony pedestal in the back of the room. It’s body seemed as if it had been made of compressed shadows, and it’s eyes were a deep crimson; they were very menacing against the blackness of the body. Dominic lifted his head proudly, “I am not afraid of the darkness, nor am I afraid of you.” The shadow laughed. “That is very foolish. The darkness hides many dangers, one of them being myself.” The shadow leapt gracefully from the pedestal, then disappeared. There was a flash of fear on Dominic’s face, but he quickly banished it. “Ah, so you are afraid of me. Don’t try to hide it now,” the shadow teased. “I saw the fear in your eyes. You think yourself too high and mighty to feel fear, but that is where you are wrong Dominic. Everyone feels fear, you cannot escape it.” The indignation that he felt was immense. How had she undermined his composure so easily? Steady, Dominic. Don’t let her get the better of you. Control yourself.
The shadow reappeared in front of him; it had changed form. Its body was now in the form of a feline. She circled him, “Shall we get down to business now?” “I thought you enjoyed taunting me too much to remember why I was actually here. But yes, let us discuss the matter at hand.” © 2012 ValerieAuthor's Note
