speed

A Poem by Pia Van Ravestein
"

part of the 'cephalopod' series.

"

speed

emily is worth 200 dollars on a good night,

bargain for an unmarked 7 year old

with curls and pale skin

that shines against business ties

used as tie-downs.

there was a daisy on her knickers,

a whisper of kindness

before goey.

now, she tastes daisies in her mouth.

flashbulbs open her eyes like windows.

when they fetch her for round 2

cramps mean she no longer walks.

she is carried back to the bridal bed.

when she passes out

she imagines they are pulling her teeth

                                    one

by one

by one.
