I'm Sorry

I'm Sorry

A Poem by RavenWells
"

A poem about the pain of bullying, and how it reaches beyond the bully and the victim.

"
I'm sorry for your pain.
I'm sorry for just standing by and not stopping it.
I'm sorry for my cowardice.
I'm sorry for the words and punches thrown at you.
I'm sorry that it's changed you.
I'm sorry that you've turned bitter.
I'm sorry I didn't befriend you.
I'm sorry that I didn't step in while you were still strong.
I'm sorry I watched your heart die .
I'm sorry I turned my cheek when you reached out for help.
I'm sorry I don't have the strength to tell you this.
Please forgive me.

Hey! I'd like to review this poem for you. I see no one has yet. I'll start from the beginning of this and work my way down. The title...it goes hand and hand with the beginning of all but one of the lines. It gives a clear indication of the purpose of the poem while not giving anything away. It doesn't give away why your sorry or for what, which is good because mystery often intrigues. The first line "I'm sorry for your pain" is really sad. It sets the mood for the poem as depressing and full of remorse and regret. Those five words say it all. It's hard to imagine the impact and meaning of those five words that tell all. They tell how you are sorry. That you wish the person to have a better life. That your regretting what you may have said or down. What you may have caused the person to go through. Or someone else has. The rest of the poem gives all the sad examples of why or how they were hurt. Why your the one who's sorry. This poem is sad, and yes, it's depressing. Yet, it is so true in the world of today. We carelessly say what we don't mean, or even if we do we don't know that they will hurt someone that much. The fact that even the nicest person has a dark and mean side. It's all a joke. The fact that we can live in peace. It's a big joke because we're human. We get jealous and depressed. We start to wonder. Our mind wanders. We watch, wait, and talk. We are oblivious to our own destruction. We must face that fact and not only ask someone for forgiveness, but also to accept and forgive ourselves. This was nicely penned.

Best regards,

Dell

Is it weird that I can relate to this poem? I was bullied at school and sometimes wished people would have my back, you know? Anyway, I like how honest this is and how real it is. Good work.

Thank you :). I'm sorry that your school experience was so rough. Kids can be so cruel.
I can relate to both aspects of this poem for I have been on both sides. I have been the one who didn't stand up when I should have and I have been the one who no one else stood up for. Nice write. It cries out for people to do what is right. Stand up for people. There is so much good that can be done when you do one selfless act and stand up for a person. It changes things.

Seems like at the end you find the strength to at least ask for forgiveness, but is it too late? Very honest and emotional, well constructed too. Enjoyed it a lot.
