Trying to change

Do you ever get that feeling?

Like sand slipping through your fingers

Then at the end it's still...

 just a pile of sand

Yet more scattered

That feeling is you,

You trying to change

To impress

To fit in

But you can change all you like

You're still the same sand 

but spread apart,

disconnected from yourself

You can be the most horrible person in the world

but we are all just sand timers

We go through to one side

Then we flip 

And suddenly we are on the other side

Yet both sides are the same

You've just lost small parts of you on the way
