Into The Woods

Into The Woods

A Poem by Raven Starhawk

Eternal sleep smiles at me
Shadows in the night call out to me
Heavy and crushing, they won't go away
Love and sorrow is a perfect match when devils spin their tale
Warm...the path down my arm is warm
Why does it feel like the end is so near?
Magic swindles hope as night fall swoops in on wings of a dove
Sour notes play on the harp
From where does it manifest?
How can I care when I am forced to realize my own despair?
Long and steel slashes join the hymn
Forged in battle, dark gathers in the yawning abyss.
In the garden we are alone
God is not here

Author's Note

Raven Starhawk
Before anyone wonders what this poem is about let me just clarify everything and disclose that it is something I wrote after watching Evil Dead. I simply put myself in the main character Ash's shoes and try to feel what he may have felt.

"In the garden we are alone - God is not here" Those two lines are a beautiful finish to a poem filled with sinister omen, foreboding, and just a hint of bitter-sweet. Great write...

P.S. I like where you got your inspiration.

Well done as always. The first two lines draw the reader in and you are held enrapt until the end. Keep on penning.

Bonus points for being inspired to write a poem after watching Evil Dead. That is many shades of awesome. ;)
I like the dark and foreboding mood. Nice ending (like the door slamming shut on a jail cell, punctuation of despair).
