A Heart’s Betrayal

A Heart’s Betrayal

A Poem by Raven Starhawk

A Heart’s Betrayal

Faster and faster

Without reason

You hammer

You threaten

My consciousness

My appetite

My sentiments

Why must you

Continue to defy

Medical interpretation

Logic and reason

After all

You are simply

A heart

A vital instrument

To my survival

Yet you betray me
