Now and Then By, Adrian Eledge The lightning bolt hit the ground in the distance, followed by a quick crackle. The water droplets fell from the grey upper sky. The best Ace Pilot around with the last name of Kalihad flew his P51-D Mustang threw the bangs and booms of the storm. The engine gave out a sweet low humming sound. No one knew Kalihad’s first name. He never told anyone. His parents both barely knew it… When, they were alive that was… Kalihad’s parents didn’t live long after World War II started, like a curse, it killed ‘em both: Dad had a heart attack, Mom got real sick. After that Kalihad had joined the Army Air Corps to earn a job and take out his anger on some enemies. A missile zipped up in front of Kalihad’s Mustang. “Oh boy,” He muttered “Sir, we’ve got followers!” yelled his co-pilot behind him. They dove down in a corkscrew and buzzed up in blazing fire until the bullets ripped through a German BF 109. Fire burned up into its cockpit and it spun into one of the ground-bound AA turrets. Kalihad watched in awe. Then he barrel rolled back into the action. He pressed a switch, ten rockets shot out into the swarm of BF’s. The rockets missed most of them. Of course, they shot back. “Damn,” Kalihad turned upside down then sped up, pulled up on the stick and now was behind the German flock of planes. He shot them as fast as he could but bullets ripped through his wings from behind. Fire burst from both sides of the Mustang. He still tried to pull up but his plane still flew down. “No, no, no, no, no,” Kalihad closed his eyes.
Then, it happened…
* * * Kalihad woke up to a disturbing picture. He was lying on his partner’s bloody stomach and he looked up at what was left of his partner’s face. “Oh God…” He mourned. A silver and yellow metal carcass lay there on fire. It was the P51-D Mustang. The wings were far away from him. What he didn’t notice in all the smoke was that above him was a whole different world. A world more advance and in more trouble than the world that Kalihad was used to. But that comes later… Kalihad got up, he looked over to a yellow disk, about the size of a swimming pool, a sign read: Welcome Back to Earth. Then, he noticed a buzzing sound from above. He walked out of the smoke and saw a plane buzz overhead but it had no propeller. Not quite fully conscious yet, he ignores it. When, he looked up to find a strange looking city in the distance. It had many curves and long antennas on the top of some buildings. The only things that he could think of were: Those are neat buildings, and WHERE THE HECK AM I? But he still walked on silently. “Wait, Sir!” A voice called out to him in an English accent. Kalihad turned around to find a tall, thin, man running at him wearing a suit. He stopped when he reached Kalihad he stopped. “Who are you?” Kalihad asked. “The name’s uhhhh…” He spilled out “Well…” “Oh! That’s right: The name’s Nigel!” “Well, what are you doing here?” “I was going to ask you the same thing.” “I was shot down by a German BF 109, and I ended up crashing here instead of crashing into the ground of a German base, you?” “Well, firstly, German BF 109’s were in World War II. That ended a while back, and I got here while I was in a pub in “You mean, you’re from the- the- future?” “No, you’re from the past.” “Well, this isn’t 1941, I know that!” “This isn’t 1964 I know that!” They both stood there thinking. It was the beginning to an un-breakable bond. The events that were about to happen would affect the Space Time Continuum forever… (to be continued...)
