Tripping On Words

Tripping On Words

A Poem by Rasputin
"

My take on poetry.

"
Poetry is like good acid- it makes you see things in a new light
It gives you pause for thought, time to reconsider
It opens doors in your mind you didn't know were there
Poetry is the white rabbit
A poem can make the mundane, day-to-day drudgery come alive like a haunted house filled with mental patients
It can bore a hole into the fabric of reality and let you see through to the other side
Poetry is what's behind the two-way mirror
Poetry lets you see behind the camera lens
Poetry is what's behind door number three
It's the forgotten reality, hidden by the thin film of conscious thought
It's the feeling you get when you realize that the insane man in the straitjacket might have been right all along
It's what you see through the window when you're on the train
It's what you see when you close your eyes
It's the room above the ceiling and buried under the basement floor
It's a trip
Someday it will be illegal

what a unique way to describe it, "it's the forgotten reality"-love that line! I truly enjoyed reading this!
"It's the room above the ceiling and buried under the basement floor "... great way to express the subterranean thought processes hidden within poetry.

This was a great read, and I laughed at and loved the last line. Thanks.

Love this. I can really relate to some parts- 'It's what you see through the window when you're on the train'. The language you use is fantastic, devoid of clichés. The ending was perfect

God help me if writing ever becomes illegal...it's the only way I know how to purge. But I agree...our freedom of speech is very much in danger....it could be gone tomorrow. Your thought process behind this is all too real for me. If I was to share the very same thoughts... that I pen about in my poetry, with my friends and family in the physical world...I would have been committed a long time ago!

Just when I thought your work was nothing but a nasty rant you come up with something truly elegant!
