The Lucid DreamA Poem by Marlon Ferguson...an outer dimension experience...Rainbows crissed and crossed the sky As I gazed up and longed to fly. Angel wings from my shoulders sprouted, And though I have forever doubted The existence of an unseen god; His omnipresence seems quite odd To me (agnostic wide awake). I whispered, shouted, even prayed He would not stay the wind’s uplift And cast my worthless soul adrift. Yet, as I prayed, the heavens parted And I found myself and course re-charted.
Cast headlong into seething seas, With webbed feet pretty as you please And gills to die for, down I plunged. As water drowned my landlocked lungs. Fishes and crustaceans gasped As I, a strange being, slithered past. And pass I did with haughty aire, Alive, alone, and free from care. Yet, as I ventured ever deeper, The thought, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” Spiraled me beyond control Into the death-dark depths below.
When spat out on the other side, A snow-blind brilliance dulled my eyes. “Is this a dream? Am I aware?” There seemed to be no answer there. Then, from the white void, spectres rise. “Prodigal kinfolk,” I surmise. To my dismay, as close they came, The faceless figures voice my name. I feel their synergy conspire As ice beneath me turns to fire. Yet, still no lessons had I learned, Ere my feet and body burned.
Alas! I cannot perish here! Then, quick as thought, I reappear Atop a jungle canopy Where worlds, ablaze, unfold before me. I marvel as the sun’s last glimmer Sets the stage lights dim, then dimmer. Down I glide, as if a feather, Alighting in a field of heather. You are there, as well as others, Fathers, sisters, sons, and mothers, All embracing, high with hope… and With that, my eyelids flutter open. © 2023 Marlon Ferguson |
