Room for TwoA Poem by Marlon FergusonTo all who listen...
As days drift by, I pause to view
A vision in my mind. A cursive glance Is all it takes. Your face, still fresh and new, Gleams gold as mirrors in the sun. A brief romance burned bright, for once So rare, so right, so true. You lit The forlorn chambers there. Your kiss My soul enchanted. Your essence swept The cobwebs clear and left my memories haunted. Fortunate are we who live to see Lost hopes renewed, and merit refuge In a heart with room enough for two. Shall I return to hold thee near, and so Rejoin the living? I fear, though my heart Beats for thee, the consequence of giving. For I’d purloin the moon and stars And leave the night forsaken. And, yet, You’d not deny this wanton world it’s Nocturne splendor. No, yours would be A gentler way to bid the night surrender. Thy light would mingle with their own. A style befitting you. You’d share the heavens, for your skies Have room enough for two. Yes, true love doth immortalize Inconsequential lives. Where e’er it lands, Love, somehow, thrives and, through it all, Still stands. It summons up the best from Lesser men,of which I’m one. Thy faith and grace hath granted me A space beneath thy sun. Though my Dim light be not as bright or nurturing As thine, I gaze beyond belief to find My place, as dreamers do. How sweet the air! If we but dare Leave room enough for two. © 2022 Marlon Ferguson |
