Rupicola

A Story by .

The carpet was gray
There was a microwave
 a television and a lamp
made of a man and woman embracing
The birds sounded like sirens
Screaming

We ate rice noodles with our hands
From the cups we bought coffee in earlier
The last of our money we spent on the train

Auckland glows purple at night
The cars are small
And the people have thin eyes

We watched a movie about a boy and and a girl who fell in love
In the end the girl died
I cried for two hours afterwards
You cried for ten minutes

We ate white toast with salt
We felt so hungry
Probably from dehydration
The water wasn't good for drinking

My new mother was beautiful
dressed in all black
The center of her house was made entirely of glass

You fell asleep
I listened to bedhead
And never cried
I smoked too many cigarettes
And then took the train home
It felt weird without you
