Crying

Crying

A Poem by Ranger Kessel

I saw you there. Under the stairs.
Black eyed and crying. Straps of your
Gown hanging loosely under your
Shoulder.

The night that went awry.

Evading your glance I hid
In shadows. From the kitchen.

Drunk and sobbing. Flashes
Of blue and red as sirens
Approached.

I should have held you. I was
Scared. Not for you but for me.
Of what it would mean. For me?
For you?

Today cigarette burns run
Up and down my arms like snakes
Escaping Consequence. An inferno
I've sentenced myself to.

As if that were enough.

And you know.

I was there

Sobbing

Quietly inward.

I love you.

I had to come back for more. This was staggering to read. The enormity of your words, the angst, the pain, the abuse and the regret are all monumental. Such an emotive piece, Ranger. And so deserving of more reviews than it has garnished.

Very fine work, Ranger. I like how you were able to compress and keep it intense.

Thank you for the read and review
abuse from this perspective...the regretful perpetrator....
understanding how she is feeling...
the cigarette part is fantastic....and what an ending.
God, this is good, Ranger.
this touches a nerve of any reader.
