Just Like Me

Just Like Me

A Poem by Ranger Kessel

they were just like me
only really quite dead
they hung from a tree
with holes in their head

their eyes were all fat
with blood dripping down
their cheeks were all flat
from the beatings in town

we never quite knew
what they really were
just what they would do
or the trouble they’d stir

when they fell from the tree
limbs dripping all red
they thought they were free
and no longer dead

they had one thing on their mind
which was a craving for brains
they were in such a bind
wearing dead people stains

we beat them with hooks
and cut off their heads
we wrote in our books
how their misery spreads
