Alone

Alone

A Poem by Alexanda Corrin
"

She has lived to long to even care...

"
Through the ages she can do nothing but -
watch as -
everybody she ever spoke to, saw, loved -
as everybody she ever knew fell away.

They called it a miracle -
she a curse.

But in the end -
they disappear to.

She lives -
compassion turning into -
apathy,
discord,
hate.

All alone now,
nobody knows,
even then...
nobody cares.

It is a mercy she could never comprehend,
alone,
forever,
forgotten.

She can't even bring herself to care,
the passage of another -
day, year, century, millennia.

Time is no longer an obstacle,
it is a curse.

You capture well the curse of immortality. Reminds me of the movie The Age of Adeline. Well done.

I like the fact that it really happens in real life. I feel the hurt, I feel myself. Cheers to the author!

Any of the introverts would love to see and relate to this. By the way, you are welcome!
Yes, the idea of immortality and the pain that it can bring is a very interesting idea to think about, isn't it? It's discussed in an interesting way in The Vampire Lestat series, as well as Doctor Who!
Loved the poem, it was very thought provoking.

A different perspective on living to a ripe old age, that I am sure some who do would be in complete agreement with. To watch everyone you know pass on and the circle of friends diminish to nought, is a harsh end to a life. Wonderfully captured.
