Just Like You

Just Like You

A Poem by Randi Beatse
"

Don't be like daddy dearest.

"

I do what I can

Almost everyday

To avoid becoming like you

All the alcohol I pass up

And the drugs I turn away

Because I know

One tiny slip up

And I’ll be just like you

When my anger spikes

And I start to raise my voice

I have to step back

For fear of being like you

When life gets rough

And the easiest option is running away

I have to fight

To stand my ground

Or I’ll become just like you

It’s not easy

And most days I want to throw in the towel

But I can’t

Because every being in me

Never wants to be

Just like you

The reader can see clearly the message being conveyed. The feelings are raw and unfiltered. This piece made me sad and yet hopeful that the struggle that occurs each day is won. Thank you for sharing!
