Then I'll Smile

Then I'll Smile

A Poem by Rakerman1

Where do smiles go to hide?
When the bitter tears are cried
When they flow as falling rain
Where's the smile to quell the pain?
Is it scared or just uncaring?
Just a silly mask for wearing
Keeping all the hurt inside
Where do smiles go to hide?

Why does laughter run away?
When the  sorrow comes to stay
When it's surely needed most
It vanishes as if a ghost
Cowards both, I need them not
I'll survive on what I've got
Guts and brains and devil's guile
When life's over, then I'll smile.

Hmmm...I am very much a fan of your poems...Yet...I don't know. I like the message behind this one, very much, but it seems to fall flat to me. It doesn't have your usual splendor in there. Perhaps the flow is a little off? I happen to think that line: "It vanishes as if a ghost" needs a little something added to it to keep it going, but I could be wrong. Sorry, I tend to be a little opinionated. But still a good read. :)
