this kinda blue

this kinda blue

A Poem by Rain
"

Just words with no place to go..

"
i've been feeling empty lately
kinda out there all by myself
probably need to get me a thicker coat
put this old one here back up on the shelf
i really need to go somewhere
maybe to the library, maybe read a book
find me a new friend...someplace with a different look
getting too old to ramble...not sure what to do
sometimes think about her...when it's
this kinda blue

just don't see nothing headed my way
everyday pretty much the same
people start lookin all alike
everyone seems to have a game
all i got is a necklace from you
sometimes i think the whole city
feels this kinda blue

it's just an empty feelin
like this might be all i'll be
some nameless,faceless,no-body
living life aimlessly
i don't see the wind changin
not a whole lot left to do
just sometimes wonder
do you remember me, when it's
this kinda blue

sat in the corner booth
of an old family diner
the waitress that took my order
reminded me a bit of you
coffee and toast
a false smile from the host
a drop of rain
does its lonely dance
down a window pane
i sit alone in a booth for two
there's a sound to this kind of down
a lonely melody
to this kinda blue

" Sat in the corner booth
Of an old family diner...."

That last stanza is especially strong. The words fit together perfectly.
Coffee and Toast is a good lonely meal to eat.
I like that the last stanza included other people, it somehow made the longing that much stronger,
the empty feeling seem just a little more empty.

Well written.

I think from time to time we've all been there. I know I have. An emotional piece that have brought back certain painful memories for me...some things time do heal, but others time cannot touch.

Oh...wow, I certainly do know "this kinda blue". This is so easy to relate to, very true-to-life...I guess more for some than others. I liked the rhythm and style of this very much.
"probably need to get me a thicker coatput this old one here back up on the shelf" - perhaps a thicker skin...as defense against this heaviness? "getting too old to ramble...not sure what to do" yes, me too...restlessness is in my blood the people in my family are wild and free all "raised on the river" (as we say down here then people get a knowing look in the eyes explains a lot!) the restlestness tries to take over sometimes but I am a wife and mother now, my days of chasing the wind are over I suppose.
"the waitress that took my orderreminded me a bit of you...a false smile" people are so misleading, aren't they?
"there's a sound to this kind of downa lonely melodyto this kinda blue" what an absolutely perfect ending.

I agree with everyone else...this definitely does sound like a song and it definitely captures how those kind of blues feel too.

The title reminded me immediately of Miles Davis, and I know your man Coltrane is on that album.

"the waitress that took my order
reminded me a bit of you
coffee and toast
a false smile from the host
drops of rain
race down a window pane
i sit alone in a booth for two"

This is some of your best writing and has the honesty that I associate with your work. Great job!

This is really good. It captures how I feel right now. A real good write. The emotions captured are so true of how a lot of people feel sometimes.
