Leaving Ash and Words

Leaving Ash and Words

A Poem by Rain

When I die, will it be my Word, or my Ash that lasts.

"

Leaving Ash and Words

In the end,
it matters little,
but to a few.

I've watched
friends die,
and watched
as time eventually does
heal all.

Words cannot
open the door for you,
or check on a strange noise
in the middle of the night.

I love life, but also know,
that when all words
have been spoken,
there is as much eternity
in the ash of a common man,
as any word.

Wow. Reading your poem filled me with a reverence for how little, we leave behind when one's time is done. Except the words, we either speak or leave behind in the written word. Never thought of looking life in this light before. Thank you for opening up my eyes to this. Thank you for sharing this poem with us.

You are so right Ray but in actuality Ash and words will more than likely be all I am able to leave this ole world. I love the title of this one too. Not sure how I missed this one unless I am further down somewhere in your reviews, but I did not remember this one and all of your work is very memorable once read.

Great as always.

Hugs,
Lesa

Very Zen, and it is following one of Noble Truths, everything even life is temporary. I really enjoyed reading this. Thanks so much for entering it.

"there is as much eternity

Great insight here, and I like comparing the two things, words and ash of a common man, both ultimately forgotten, in the end, in eternity. I really do like these lines.

This is now one of my favorites of yours...I love the timeless thoughts and questions you pose here. We are like ash that is here one day and then blown away the next. This is really beautifully thought out and expressed.

This made me sit back and think. I often wonder to myself will any of my words still be read by anyone when I go? But I don't want to be ashes..
Thank you for making me think

gorgeous write, rain. this is spectacular. although i tend to think someone's words will go on forever instead of a persons ashes. true, when we die we with the earth but who knows how long the planet will last in its gravity with the universe. And ashes may fly in the wind.
