QuestionsA Poem by Nicholas Antonio YoungConceived in sin and born into a loveless world I'm spit on, stepped on, and ignored Yet towards those that wish me so much pain How can I feel no hate, spite, or disdain? Should it be easy to dismiss a soul Even if it were as black as coal? What compels souls to feel that hate? Is it by choice, or simply by fate?
Am I one who understands what's true? Or one that finds the truth hard to believe? Is life meant to be dark and cruel? Or is it meant to be bright and free?
Some say our nature is one of sin and spite Then why is my nature only of love and light? Why is there so much evil struggling to be good? Is it really evil, or benevolence misunderstood? Will we ever discover our true emotions? Or will these questions be buried under the oceans? Will I die with these questions in my head? Or will I understand, finally, when I am dead?
Am I one who understands what's true? Or one that finds the truth hard to believe? Is life meant to be dark and cruel? Or is it meant to be bright and free?
God, tell me please What is it we're meant to believe? © 2013 Nicholas Antonio YoungAuthor's Note
