To Find Paradise Part 1

To Find Paradise Part 1

A Poem by Nicholas Antonio Young
"

The first part is more of a song. It's about my struggle to find peace. It's slightly inspired by the story of Icarus.

"

On wings made of wax I take to the heavens
Yet I always fall, my wings melt down and I strike the ground
An impact to shake the very world, and to crush my very soul

A force to break my mind, and destroy my resolve

The Earth was never my friend, so I seek my salvation in the sky
For it should exist out there, not this sick and twisted world of lies
So I built these wings

I'll fly

I vow to be among the stars and grasp their light,

To forever forget the darkness of this miserable life
To embrace the air and forsake the Earth
To find my joy and escape the endless hurt

But why? Why do I keep falling?

Are humans so helpless, flawed, only meant for failing?
If there is no salvation will I even find it in the sky?
...No, I am alive and I'll try, with everything even if I die.
I must take these makeshift wings and I will escape this,
I will rebuild my wings, I got this far, I will fly again!
...But what If I fall again?

No
I'll fly
I vow to be among the stars and grasp their light,

To forever forget the darkness of this miserable life
To embrace the air and forsake the Earth
To find my joy and escape the endless hurt

I'm so close, I will achieve perfection through mistakes

I will rise above everyone, they will envy me for what I've done
I will beat my head against this wall until it breaks
It seems so impossible, but I will acquire this strength
...But how can I, when I can't?
How can I achieve more than I possibly can?
..I can't

This poem is really well written. I really like how you paralleled parts of the poem to the Myth of Icarus, it makes the message of the poem that much stronger! My favorite line is "I will beat my head against this wall until it breaks It seems so impossible, but I will acquire this strength." Great job Nick :]
