Again

Again

A Poem by Rainbowco

Crack! Thunder vibrates the windows,

rattling the dog’s nerve to whimpers

sending her to hide under the unmade bed.

There is no flash of light, only grumbles

in the sticky humidness of the afternoon.

No breeze of coolness disturbs the leaves,

nor banishes this heat that simmers

in the stew of words you do not leave unsaid.

Oh God! Skillful is your power to wound,

rapier wit flicking cuts - quick and deep.

Observing with the blandest of looks

my despised desperation for emotional control.

Your smile slight, as my tears start to flow,

again, things end just as you knew they would.

For the life of me, I cannot find that storm outside - then again, I do not believe it was ever there. It definitely provides a strong environmental allusion to what actually transpired... definitely is not strong enough, but I lack the words at the moment. It is an interesting variation of fourteen lines.

This was just wonderful. What I like most about it is that it is hard to determine which storm the dog is hiding under the bed from, the storm brewing outside or the emotional "storm" inside the house.

The tension is so thick you can cut it here. Like the imagery with the thunder and the dog hiding, the rapier, etc. Hope all is well with you, Rainboco. Did you know you have a couple of haiku posted on Poetry Dances?

Your friend,
Tom
