Chapter Three-The Grasp Of Death [Shi]A Chapter by RainbowNinjaChapter Three-The Grasp Of Death [Shi] I watched silently from where I stood on the dock, no one else around to see the feeble struggle from the young girl, far out in the water. I could just barely make out her form before her head dipped under, and failed to emerge again. A minute passed; then another. I smiled sadly to myself, gripping the handle of my scythe tighter. “Ebony...you’re holding the pieces of my shattered heart. But you just can’t help it, can you?” I muttered, and then dove into the icy water. It had probably been close to 100 years since I had last swam. The water was murky and it was hard to see, but I could still make out her sinking form. Ebony. I watched her eyes slowly, unseeingly shut, and her mouth part slightly. Just as she started to take her last breath I shot forward. I grabbed her wrist, my touch freezing her soul-neither alive nor dead. I pulled her limp, unconscious form into my arms and held her close. I swam up to the surface, but we never broke through the water before I made a swishing movement with my hand and we vanished, reappearing in a foreign land. I layed her sleeping figure down in the snow, brushing some stray hairs from her face. Her skin was soft and hot against my cold touch. I couldn’t help myself-I bent over and kissed her, shattering my own broken heart again. I knew that I could never have her, but even the dead still dream. I pulled away and put my face close to her ear, whispering, “I wish you luck, Ebony… Until we may meet again…. I will always love you,” And with that, I left her, leaving not one footprint to show my trace. © 2014 RainbowNinja |
