Broken Highway

Broken Highway

A Poem by RainbowFlames

my life is one, long highway,
made of misery and tarnished fantasies.
sure, there are exits, but to get where i'm going,
the only way is the highway.
one, long road of cracked and weathered blacktop.
with no happy home.
i bear a burden, a pain, a wound.
you can't find it even if you looked.
you couldn't see it if even if you tried.
it's in my eyes,
and i don't have to show you.
it's so real to me,
it's realer than tearing all the ligaments in my body,
and more painful.
the closest to me hurt me the most,
it isn't real to you.
i live my life behind a sturdy, solid door,
with a broken lock.
look if you wish,
i don't really care,
just shut the door on your way out,
so i can keep driving,
lonely and alone,
on my broken highway.
perhaps i'm meant to be miserable,
and to make those surrounding me miserable as well,
maybe it was my birth right,
still suffering for sins not my own,...
my curse never fails me and never fails to resurface,
always here with me
always tugging on the seams of my threadbare smile,
so ready to pull it apart at any second.
