Look What We've Done

Look What We've Done

A Poem by RainbowEmerald
"

I wrote this in 2018. I feel like the world needs this now more than ever.

"
When I was 8 years old I fell out of a tree
Falling backwards, I hit the back of my head on the concrete ground
I was knocked unconscious
I lay there for hours until I woke up in the dark
For hours, people walked by
Nobody thought to check if a child laying on the ground was okay
An 8 year old child who could have been dead was nothing
Too busy with their lives
In too much of a hurry
To even care about another human

We need to look at humanity as a whole
Look at what we've done
There are children who need homes
But nobody will take them in
Unless they're paid by the government
There are hungry families
Relying on garbage cans to survive
But nobody will give them food
There are people being beaten by their spouse
And you hear them from upstairs
But you "don't want to get involved"

These are human beings
Just like you
And they deserve to feel safe
To be cared for
To have someone who loves them
So the next time you see something that seems wrong
It's your duty as a human to speak up
Because if you don't
It could be you next time
Needing help
With no one to turn to
