Learning How To Feel

Learning How To Feel

A Poem by RainbowEmerald

Life is a lie

The promises they made

When you were so small

That everything would work out

And it would all be okay in the end

It was all a lie just to get you through the night

They couldn't handle your emotions

They couldn't handle your battles

So they told you it would all be ok

So that they wouldn't have to deal with it

And you grew up, never learning to handle these feelings

Which eventually turned to a knife

You never learned how to handle lifes scars so you scarred yourself

A physical feeling to match an emotional feeling

That you don't understand

The world knocked you down and you never learned how to get back up

So you have to figure everything out yourself

Learn how to feel and what your emotions mean

At 22 you're teaching yourself things most parents teach their 8 year olds

All so that you can teach your own kids

How to feel in a world that wants to shut them down
