What I Knew Then

What I Knew Then

A Poem by Rain
"

I wish I knew now..what I knew then. Man, I knew it all yesterday..

"

i wish i knew now
what i knew then
love lasts forever
time is your friend

storms are rain clouds
that always pass by
you can trust strangers
grown men don't cry

we danced by the ocean
till the early morning sun
laughed at tomorrow
oh how we'd run

away from the heartache
dancing in the rain
skipping the shore line
with sweet mary jane

so take me back
just once more, again
when i knew it all
and you were my friend
my friend forever
forever and more
under the street light
where fire flies soar

show me your plan
when it was all new
show me your dreams
that never quite came true
here's to those old times
to the winds that blew then
to jimmy and marilyn
who didn't make the end

weren't we something
dancing without fear
just a bunch of drifters
all headed for here

It seems as we age or in cases of illness like we both have..that we look back on life and wonder what would have been if when we reached the "Y: in the road we had turned RIGHT instread of wrong..that is why making good memories is so important..as "Memories are one gift from God that death cannot destroy" Kathie

A most faded piece that tells of times to come

the nostalgia fairly floats off the page

Here's a man who's the store keeper of God's will and knowledge. It makes for a wonderful read, my friend. I figure, at the end of the day, so are all of us, his store keepers.

Do you do windows? I'm having some contract problems here myself.

I really love this poem. There is just something about the nostalgia, and the bittersweet of it. It tickles my memory and makes me a bit sad, yet in the way I often feel of looking back with acceptance and still wondering as well.

"i wish i knew now
what i knew then" I come back to these first lines as they are so wonderful. So often we see "I wish I knew then what I know now" and yet, here you have reminded me of all the things I once "knew" and truly believed that have somehow with time faded, or become laced with skepticism.

I love your poetic voice and the warmth of it and your words.

But it was all worth it to get to the "here" and now.. You pen the journey through self, and moments in time with love and beautiful wishes.. Well done.. :) xo

' my friend forever ~ forever and more ~ under the street light ~ where fire flies soar '.. words like that really do paint masterpieces. Seems that memories are what keep you warm in winter, when life runs down to a halt and colours fade .. as do bodies and the ability to see and understand clearly. Thought this is a wistful poem, it shows lives led, great times shared and that's what matters - sharing whatever .. or not. So good to see you back, Rain
