I didn’t believe in happiness

A victim of my second guess

Just left with another poetic mess

Until your heart made me confess

 

That I did not know what I could be

Until you pulled it out of me

I must have been so blind before

To crawl when I had wings to soar

 

I did not know that I was strong

Till I surrendered to your song

I never knew that I could cope

Until your smile rekindled hope

 

I never knew that I could give

Myself the chance to really live

Until I met your kindred heart

Which was forged within the fires of art

 

Before your kiss, before your touch

I was never really moved by much

Before I knew the words to say

Your beauty took the words away

 

But now I know how love can feel

That self-inflected wounds can heal

Because you are my everything

I’m not afraid to finally sing.

I like that people are still using rhyme - even though I don't myself. Your lines run at really good lengths, you don't really fall out of flow, which I could never do.
