Chapter 1 ~Lizzie~A Chapter by Lizzie_MadridThe story begins and Lizzie is introduced.Chapter 1 I
always have hated my alarm clock. My
alarm clock is the kind that, when the power shuts off and then eventually
turns back on, it resets to 12:00. Last
night, the power must out have went out, when I woke up I had 30 minutes until the
bus was supposed to pick me up. “Uhhhhhh!” I groaned, rolling up into a sitting
position. “Liz!
Liz, are you awake? The bus is going to
be here in 30 minutes! Hurry up!” Todd yelled through my door, pounding on it
so hard, I thought his fist was going to break through my door. Todd,
my twin brother, was always nagging me.
He was older than me by a minute, which he always held over my
head. He was probably one of the most
annoying brothers in the world, no make that the universe! “I’m
coming!” I yelled. “Well
hurry it up! If you are not out of there
in 5 minutes, I am coming in there!” He
yelled back. “Ya
ya ya! Okay Mom!” I threw back. I
heard him walking away from my door, down the hallway, mumbling about
irresponsible sisters. I
slowly rose out of bed, groaning all the way up. I walked over to my dresser and looked at the
mirror over it. “Blah,
I look horrible!” I thought. Slowly,
as I was waking up, I gathered all the stuff I needed for a shower, and slowly
shuffled out of my room, towards the bathroom.
I barely made it down the hall, to see Todd standing at the hallway
(Right next to the bathroom door I might add) with his arms crossed in front of
him. “Wow,
morning sunshine! I am glad to see you
have joined the living.” He said in a cheerful
voice that made me think Dora had possessed him. I
stuck my tongue out at him, while turning the bathroom doorknob in my hand. “Ohhhh,”
He rushed over and gathered me in a hug.
“I love you, too!” “Stop
Dora!” I yelled, shoving my hands in his face to try and push myself away from
him. “What did Boots put in your food?!” “Ha
Ha He! Very funny!” He said putting me down. “Well
excuse me, I have to get ready for school.” “Hurry
it up though.” He warned. “We have like
20 minutes!” He yelled, already making his way down the hallway. “Brothers!” I thought. Slowly
stripping down, I thought about this day, the first day of school, the
beginning of my Junior year at Guymon High School. I did not know anyone there although. In June, we had moved from Asheville, North
Carolina to good-old Optima in the Oklahoma Panhandle with maybe 150 population
with the majority Hispanics. We had moved into the trailer at 406
Jefferson. Across the street is a feed
lot with cows, goats, chickens, and whatnot.
I was hoping for a neighborhood with kids playing on the sidewalks,
mothers making apple and putting on the windowsill to cool, and people who
brought you casseroles when it was around dinnertime. How wrong I was. There
was a family across the street who were kinda nice but, they weren’t the apple
pie/casserole type. There was another
couple on one side of us seemed rude and always glared at me and Todd when we
were on the trampoline. They also had very annoying dogs that were always
yapping nonstop. On the other side was……
no one. It had obviously been empty for years, which you could tell by the
porch, fence, and shed, which were falling apart. The
house we moved into is in really good condition, with porch, fence, and shed
intact. My
thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. “Liz!
Hurry it up! The bus is will be here in 10 minutes. If you aren’t outta there
soon I will shut off the water!” Todd
yelled. “Okay!
I am turning off the water right now.” I
turned off the water, stood there for a second and then hopped out. I grabbed a towel and started to dry off. “Oof. What am I going to do with my hair?” I asked myself, peering at my pixie haircut.
It was the same as Emma Watson’s. “Oh,
I know NOTHING!” I
got dressed as fast as my body would let me. “There.”
I huffed at my reflection. I
had dressed myself in a red halter-top that had white polka-dots, faded denim
capris, and to top it all off, a pair of knee-high black Converse. I got out of
the bathroom, and on the way to the kitchen, I threw my shower stuff in my
room. “Finally.” Todd said, putting a plate of eggs on the
counter. “Eat.” He pointed at the plate. “Don’t
have to tell me twice.” I replied,
plopping my butt down on one of the stools, and started shoveling eggs into my
mouth. “I’m
guessing you like them.” I
shook my head. Todd
frowned at me. “I love them!” “Thanks….
I guess?” “Seriously! Have you ever considered going to culinary school?” I asked. “Have
you ever considered you never had dinner last night?” I
stuck my tongue out at him. “You
keep that dir-,” A horn cut him off. “Crude!
That’s the bus!” I exclaimed, dumping my
plate in the sink and running back to my room to grab my phone, Mp3, and bag. I
rushed around my room trying to find all my stuff, which I found in the most
unlikely places. I found my phone in my open pencil bag on my desk. I found my
Mp3, halfway in the laundry hamper. Then, I found my bag- well, I didn’t find
my bag! I stuffed what I had found in my pockets and took off
down the hallway. Reaching the front room, I looked around. “Todd!
Have you seen my bag?” “Right
here.” He was standing in the open doorway, with his bag over his shoulder and
my bag swinging from his finger. “Thanks.”
I said, running up and grabbing my bag from him. I barely squeezed by him
through the doorway. “Well,
excuse Moi!” He said, following me
across the yard. “Sorry!”
I threw over my shoulder as I reached the bus. “Morning!
Ready for your first day of school?” The
bus driver asked in a cheerful voice, that once again, reminded me of Dora. Todd
and I nodded. “Good.
Now sit your butts down in a seat!” She snapped. We
hurried to find a seat before she complained. I ended up in a seat across from
Todd. Problem was, I had a kid chewing gum right in my ear. Trying to drown him
out, I turned on my Mp3. The first song on was ‘Secrets’ by One Republic. “Well
everyone has their secrets, now don’t they?” I asked myself. Off
the bus went street after street, after street, after street, and we still had
another 30 minutes of it. Well,
since we have such a long bus ride, I might as well introduce myself. I’m Lizzie
Roan Madrid, I have always loved my middle name, but I never tell anyone that.
I am 16 years old. I love photography. I usually have a photo album for every
year that goes by. I also love gardening (We don’t have a garden at our house),
yoga (I can barely wake myself up in the morning to do it), and reading (I read
all the time!). I suck at public speaking, or just speaking to anyone I don’t
know, really. I have whitish-blond hair with deep sapphire eyes. I have a-. “Here
we are! Guymon High School! Now get out!”
The bus driver yelled, interrupting my thoughts. Everyone
scrambled to gather their stuff and get out, which just caused a wreck. I was stuck at the end of the line with some
guy in front of me. The line showed an increase of speed, and just as everyone
was speeding up, the line slammed to a halt. I ended up ramming into the guy’s
back. “Sorry!”
I yelped. “What
the-.” The guy turned around. “Oh! It’s okay. Happens every year.” He
explained, looking at me closely. “I’m Eli, Eli Stevens.” He held out his hand. I
shook his hand, “I’m Lizzie Madrid.” “Cute
name.” He said over his shoulder as he turned around to exit the bus. I
hurried off the bus after him, blushing like crazy. “I’ll
see you at lunch, Liz!” He called as he hurried towards the buildings doors. “Maybe
this will be a good year after all.” I thought dreamily. © 2011 Lizzie_MadridAuthor's Note
