Compare and Contrast

Compare and Contrast

A Poem by Raef C. Boylan

The worm in the apple,

the maggot writhing

in the corpse,

are just going about their day

and did not mean

to cause a scene,

offense nor discomfort.

And the politician

was once young

with decent intentions.

But the amount of arse

he had to lick

to reach the dizzying heights

of influence, left him

with the taste

of s**t in his mouth.

So now he’s dishing some out.

New guy here, I liked this a lot. I like the somewhat semi-vague metaphor to kick things off, that becomes clearer as you read. Then when you get to the end, you realize and have to go back to get the full effect. I can't speak for anyone else, but I think, if you can get someone to read something twice, you've done a pretty good job. I'd appreciate it if you read some of my work. Also, love the pic of Kit. Been doing any skysurfing recently?

It's a shame really that we are forced to sacrifice our morals in order to keep food on our tables... We sacrifice our own self worth for the cheap gratification of being superficially worthy of value in the eyes of another.Resentment can destroy whole communities... Or it can change the world. Hope is all we can have for this "politician"; that fragment of the "sell out"we all carry in us, ready to spring out when the right dollar amount shows up. Money, the greatest of all temptations... Also the most meaningless. This is what I get from your piece, simple yet profound; truth has rarely needed much more than that.
