Memorial ParkA Poem by Raef C. BoylanFinally wrote a poem again...
Today I fell in love With some trees and the sky I am a recluse - there are holes in my jeans And my earphones Nobody must see me The dog-walker in his wheelchair feels the same way We are unsightly contradictions So I salute him with a wave I get my adventures at 5am Slipping smugly past your sleeping houses, curtained eyes Dark space is not good for the sleep-deprived Every bat is a vampire Each swaying branch a predator Blossom earnestly birthing eternal memories of dead soldiers I think the reason most people get up after six Is because we have made a pact with nature (the birds look surprised to see me but they are tolerant) I think I had writer’s block because I wasn’t living And there are already too many poems about death
Now I have to beat the early-morning joggers to the swings Then let the giant flashing squirrel guide me home... © 2012 Raef C. BoylanFeatured Review
