Hesitate
A Poem by
Raef C. Boylan
Tap, tap, tap
Be hospitable, little one;
respond warmly
to the polite, urgent knocking
of a stranger in need.
Be not cautious; lift the latch
from its catch and welcome
them into your life -
whatever they may reveal
themselves to be.
Tap, tap, tap
Now silence…
for nobody
warned the worms
they were the exception
to charity.

tap, tap, tap.
the end was a killer.
enjoyed the briefness of it, enjoyed the pacing, the subtle rhyme. basically, i like it.
