Your Job

Your Job

A Chapter by Raef C. Boylan

The bread

absorbs the gravy

like work

soaks up my time.

Where did all the gravy go?

I dig it. It reminds me about how things I don't want to do, but must take up all my time,
then I'm all miserable and grouchy, because of the crap that takes up my precious time when I could
be doing something else that I actually enjoy, and that is why life kills.
That's my theory, and there you go.

I diggit! I think that work might be what the "landed aristocracy" gives us to try to stop people from asking the right questions such as, "Why are we in Iraq?" and "How many people are actually dead there?"

Great write!

I love it. Very astute. I have worked office jobs before, and may do again, and I am always amazed at the sheer amount of time and energy that is expended on 'work'. I am only qualified for sales type office jobs, which usually means trying to push crappy stuff or services on to people who don't want it and cannot afford it anyway... and attempting to withstand the droning idiocy of other salesmen talking about football and getting pissed. All this leads to pain, and a day that sees you come home at 8 or 9pm, just in time to shed a few tears before collapsing and doing it again.

This is a great image of disappearing gravy. The dreams we had as children, the open wonder at the unlimited possibility of life which one finds cut short and crimped off... without any sense of accomplishment.

The only good thing about it is that it teaches you to appreciate and make use of your spare time wisely. And pays the bills. Anyway I dig this piece.

Such bitter irony, though I'm confused about the title you chose for it.

I like it. Short to the point with no hidden agenda. Awesome analogy.
