I Believe in Myself

I Believe in Myself

A Poem by Raya Avans
"

A school assignment, I was content so here it is :)

"

Anchor lead blocks to my feet

I will defy gravity

Soar like a birdie in the sky

Achieve victories

Make history

Tower the heights of possibilities

And engrave my name in antiquity

Forget the mystery

Attain it all, despite societies incredulity

The realists and logistics aside

I will overcome assumptions

Statistics and expectations

I believe

That I myself have the potential to challenge fate

And design destiny

I will look at the world through a glass turned upright and still dream

That I can make a difference

Change it all

Continue on through vicissitude

For the sky has yet to fall

I believe

In myself

That dreams cultivated in the inmost recesses of my mind

Will be realties

Never, not likely, maybe, possibly, if, it could be…

Not trickery nor fourberie

Bumps nor bruises nor any other wound suppressed on the body

Will deviate my mind from

I can

From I will

From I assure you with the utmost positivity

That I believe

In myself

I like the hope here. Nice work.

I believe that believing in ourselves is huge. Without belief in ourselves, how can we expect others to believe in us? I especially like the positivity in this poem--that we can surpass all these road blocks and bumps in the road, and still have confidence in who we are, and believe in ourselves.
thank you. :)

mmmm this was quite snazzy. The flow and the rhyme totally worked. Usually the more free verse structures like this don't grab me, but this one did. Just something about it... I don't even know. It just got me. Especially the first few lines "Anchor lead blocks to my feet-- I will defy gravity", the whole first stanza was pretty catchy, really
