ThemA Poem by RaeA poem I wrote after I left high school.
I want a life where I don't need to look back
To who I was when I was with her. The first time I fell in love And certainly not the last. She was tall, strong, strange: Some of the few qualities I loved about her. She was unique, like her wardrobe; She always wore the weirdest things. Her hair was frizzy, she had a toothy grin, But her music taste was great. And her taste was… Like a tuna sandwich, her favourite. We made peanut butter cups in her kitchen, And drank tea in her room. We stroked the cat she begged her parents for. We laughed at the way her rabbit's hair was the same as my brother's. But it wasn't meant to be. She found a him, and I found a razor. Until I found a him too, I never forgave her. When I found a him, I fell in love instantly. We laughed in my back yard too many times to count. We ate soup in his bedroom, and I laughed at how he couldn't take the spice. At the train tracks, and the river, and the farms we talked. His golden hair was long, and he had a lisp, But he was funny and smelled of strawberries and chocolate. He bought me earrings and a book I already had, But I knew it couldn't last. Then suddenly I lost my him a year after, He didn't call for weeks, so I ended it. My friends were there for me, But I wasn't even there for me. Then I found another him, But he moved too fast, In a toilet stall I found that it couldn't last, So he had to go. Then I found a her, And I moved to fast, I found that the Fanta and pancakes couldn't last. Then I moved away and things weren't the same. © 2018 RaeAuthor's Note
