Heroin for romance junkies.A Poem by RadioactiveHave you ever been in love, waiting for your next fix, and not sure why.I heard that love was like a child’s fairytale, Sweet smelling perfume and a thousand yellow daisies, And butterfly kisses that drench the air, Making it nearly impossible to breathe, So high you reach cloud nine. Heroin for romance junkies, I’ve heard. Nobody ever said a word about the slap in the face, Or the realization that the feeling when your heart gets ripped out of your chest, Isn’t just a cliched expression that you read about, And you wonder where your heart is now, and whether it still beats. Heroin for romance junkies, I’m sure. How come nobody ever compared love to drowning? Struggling when the water pulls you down, The light is always shining at the surface, But never will it ever shine on you, The harder you try to breathe, the more you notice, There is no warm relief that fills your lungs. Heroin for romance junkies, I’ve found. How long to the next fix? I’m addicted, for the thrill of the ride. It’s love, that should mean enough, Not the lack of the fire, Or the hundred times you've stayed awake and cried. Heroin for romance junkies, I’m hooked.
