My Happy New Year

see your eyes, a dull gray-blue, glossy with the signs of a drunken fool
smell the alcohol on your breath
taste it in you spit, so strong it makes me dizzy
you touch my hand, hold it tight
as we listen to the numbers counted down

10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1...Happy New Year!
it's been eight long years my love

i was thirteen when you gave me my first kiss
you, fourteen, snuck through my bedroom window
we'd kiss and talk and fall asleep
for years we'd play the same silly games

with the fights, the screaming, the hell we were
still finding ourselves in each other arms for awhile
before i'm found in tears, another heartbroken monday night

words such as "i love you" have lost all meaning within the lies
repeatedly the question is put forth as to why i stand by your side
but with our ever-changing lives and the ever-changing tides
these words i have spoken a million times will always ring true

touch my hand, you know I won't pull away
you whispers always linger on my lonely nights

10...9...8...7...6...5...4...3...2...1...Happy New Year!
it's been eight long years and I still love you.
