Dark Masterpiece

Dark Masterpiece

A Poem by Rachel Grace

I'll paint you pretty pictures
cause you love me for my art
and I learned to fashion illusions
to hide the darkness of my heart.

You say you want to love me
and who I am inside
but you aren't ready for the nightmares
and the monsters that I hide.

I turn my brush in smiling circles
and paint what you want to see
so we can fake our way forever
and pretend you haven't lost me.

You always looked the other way
and missed those nights of tears-
the battle scars along my wrists
where I lost to all my fears.

But I'll paint you pretty pictures,
holding back this flood
and you will never know
they were written in my blood.

Those scars are the saddest part of the full picture. And most don't always know what the artist has been through to produce the slightest mark. Nicely done.
